“This is a long journey, the journey of a lifetime. It’s indeed a curious ship that sails into the mystery with nothing on board save confidence of mind, courage of heart, and commitment of purpose. This is the journey of mindful self-esteem that unfolds and arises from the qualities of acceptance, compassion, and a virtuous life” (Marotta, 2013, 196-197)
Inquiry
If you let go of your personal narrative—stories you tell about yourself that aren’t really true—how would you be different, how would you feel, what would you do?
Practice
Investigate where your personal narrative comes from—a preconceived story from your past which is based on assumptions and conclusions from emotional reasoning that causes you to view yourself negatively and creates a heavy burden that you’re carrying through life. Question its validity. Let go of the story. How does the journey change?
