Beginner’s mind

Beginner’s mind

  • January 20, 2014

Mindfulness cultivates beginner’s mind: looking at things as if for the first time, without assumptions. When you employ beginner’s mind, you meet life with an attitude of curiosity; every moment is a new beginning.

Raisin’

I called you Raisin.
Brown, sweet, squishy.
Comes in a little red box
I can hold in my hand.

But now that I’ve looked at you,
I see your glistening, dark, amber hues
With crevices and scales.

Now that I’ve smelled you,
I inhale your pungent fragrance.

I hear your clicks and snaps
When I listen to you move.

As my fingers feel your squish and squirm
And my tongue tastes your tang and tart…

You’re Rais-in my belly
With the inhale.

And Raisin’ Awareness
With the exhale.
